The company currently ships NetScreen IDP, a rebranded version of the intrusion detection and prevention technology it bought when it acquired OneScreen. The firm said it would integrate IDP into existing devices in the first half of 2003.

This fall we plan to enter the second phase in the process when we introduce a new version of our ScreenOS software, which will include IDP functionality, Thomas told analysts on a conference call Wednesday.

We also plan to introduce a new version of our management tool, which will be able to manage our firewall-VPN product and newly integrated IDP capabilities as well, Thomas added.

The company has taken a prominent role in the convergence of perimeter security functions into combined appliances. IDP acts like a firewall at the application layer, inspecting packets for evidence of known attacks.

In the early part of 2004 we will see new silicon go into a new range of security gateways we release, Thomas said. The primary feature change will be deep integration of intrusion prevention and other layer 7 technologies.

The company’s stock took a hit yesterday after the company issued conservative financial guidance, based on the fact that it is saw a slowdown of business in regions affected by the SARS disease, and expects it to continue in the current quarter.
