Long-time partners Netscape Communications Corp and VeriSign Inc made a fair bit of noise about an enhancement of their relationship yesterday, which centered around the creation of a security center on Netscape’s Netcenter portal. It will provide information on VeriSign’s digital certificates and other technologies, as well as software kits and general information on internet security. Netscape will continue to use VeriSign’s Digital IDs in its client software and digital certificates in its servers. In addition, VeriSign is now the premier provider of digital certificate services to Netscape and will enjoy preeminent positioning on all Netcenter’s security-related offerings. VeriSign has provided Digital ID technology for Netscape’s browsers since they were launched and Microsoft Corp also uses the technology in Internet Explorer. The new Netcenter channel will be available from the end of March.
