Netscape Communications Corp is now targeting internet service providers and telcos with its intranet software. The company has launched SuiteSpot Hosting Edition, which is a specially-tweaked version of SuiteSpot to enable telcos, ISPs and large corporates to host users’ email and multiple websites. This version of SuiteSpot comprises Netscape Messaging Server, Collabra Server, Directory Server, Enterprise Server, Proxy Server and Mission Control, the last of which is for remote management and customizing the client. Hosting servers have obvious needs for scalability and, to this end, Netscape says it has adapted Enterprise Server to be able to handle thousands of individual customer websites, each with their own domain name and URL. The messaging server has also been adapted to include a mail multiplexer to make a bunch of mail servers appear as one logical mail server, and support both the IMAP and POP mail protocols. Netscape is also going to offer the ISPs and telcos the internet commerce products from its Actra joint venture with GE Information Services. SuiteSpot Hosting Edition will ship next quarter on an annual fee basis of $13 for each consumer user and $39 for each corporate user hosted on an intranet. The Actra products, Netscape ECXpert begins at $50,000 and PublishingXpert goes from $75,000, while SellerXpert starts at $195,000.
