NETSCAPE LAUNCHES SUITETOOLS BRAND FOR INTRANETS

By CBR Staff Writer

Netscape Communications Corp has patched together a suite of its own and third-party tools for developing and managing intranet applications under the marketing name SuiteTools. The family of products includes Netscape’s LiveWire Pro development environment as well as third-party programs. Besides LiveWire Pro and a new on-line guide dubbed Tools for Netscape One, the SuiteTools family includes NetObjects Inc’s Fusion 2.0 site building software, the NetDynamics Java-based database application development tool from Spider Technologies Inc, and Symantec Corp’s Visual Cafe Pro rapid applications development program, all of which run primarily on Windows95 and NT. SuiteTools is more of a marketing scheme than a product – each of the programs will still be priced separately, except the new on-line guide, which is available free at the Netscape Web site.
