Herndon, Virginia-based Netrix Corp reports that it has integrated a distributed Simple Network Management Protocol system into its 1-ISS Series 10 and 1000 wide area backbone switches. The launch of Netrix Network Management System Release 3.2 is aimed at customers using Simple Network Management Protocol Management Information Base II devices, says the company. Communication between the manager and the managed device is handled locally by the 1-ISS node. The 1-ISS polls the device for status and statistical information and also responds to device-generated events by polling for relevant information. Only significant events or explicit requests for information are then forwarded to the device itself, conserving bandwidth and network resources, says the company. The distributed architecture enables multiple workstations to monitor Management Information Base II-compliant devices without incurring additional costs, says the firm. The new product will be available by the end of the year; no price.
