Cupertino, California-based NetManage Inc is now shipping NEWTWatch 5.0, a Simple Network Management Protocol-based desktop adminstration console. The package is a 32-bit implementation for Windows95 or Windows NT which now includes a Software Distribution Wizard that is claimed to simplify the setting-up of an automatic software distribution system. This enables software to be distributed to all or some desktops within a specified domain, with either a push or pull policy. A 32-bit BOOTP server is also included, enabling desktop IP addresses to be managed using BOOTP. Also new is support for the company’s 32-bit Simple Network Management Protocol Super Agents. These ship in every NEWT, ChameleonNFS/X and Chameleon Host-Link product and are claimed to work seamlessly over the Microsoft Corp TCP/IP stack. In addition to gathering data from desktop personal computers, says the company, NEWTWatch will also detect any Management Interface Base II-compliant device, automatically displaying the MIB II system settings. NEWTWatch is available now, costing $500.
