Netgear has launched new powerline networking adapters – the Powerline AV 500 family and the Powerline AV 200 wireless-N extender kit, which are designed to provide consumers a cost-effective way to create an ethernet LAN connection using ordinary electrical outlet.

Netgear said that its Powerline AV 500 products are designed for compatibility with draft IEEE P1901 global standard for high-speed powerline communications; and allows data rates of up to 500Mbps.

All AV 500 products come with gigabit ethernet connection for attaching a Netgear Stora or ReadyNAS to enable multiple HD streams to TVs or other devices.

The company said that Powerline AV 200 wireless-N extender kit (XAVNB2001) combines wireless-N 300 WiFi with AV 200 powerline to create integrated offering to turn any home electrical outlet into a WiFi hotspot.

The AV 200 kit automatically connects into an existing home WiFi network and supports standards-based WPS push button security set-up.

Netgear product line manager of powerline networking Chris Geiser said that the company’s new Powerline AV 500 network speeds are 2.5 times faster than any existing product on the market to enable consumers to run multiple video, audio and data streams with ease.
