QuantiSense will meld its QS-Retail application with Netezza’s NPS (Netezza Performance Server) low-cost data warehouse appliance to deliver scalable analytics to retailers at an affordable cost.

The joint offering also includes technology from MicroStrategy Inc. QuantiSense’s packaged retail analytics for merchandising, marketing, finance, and store operations are built on top of MicroStrategy’s business intelligence platform.

The move is expected to open up the benefits of high-end data warehousing and analytics to small and medium sized retail organizations.

Netezza and QuantiSense claim their joint solution can be up and running in less than half the time it would take to implement similar solutions from IBM Corp, Oracle Corp and NCR Teradata Corp. The companies quote a price of around $750,000 and 100 days implementation for a one-terabyte retail data warehouse.

Framingham, Massachusetts-based Netezza says the primary cost saving occurs from its appliance-based approach, rather than traditional data warehousing architectures.

NPS is already being used by several major US retailers including Shoppers Drug Mart, Amazon.com and TJX Companies.
