NETEGRITY LAUNCHES SITEMINDER 3.5 ACCESS CONTROL TOOL

By CBR Staff Writer

Netegrity Inc will announce version 3.5 of its SiteMinder users access control software today, with extended scalability, authentication and directory capabilities. The company recently signed a reseller agreement with Netscape Communications Corp and it says the early results are very promising. In addition, Allaire Corp has just started shipping version 4.0 of its Cold Fusion web application server with SiteMinder embedded inside. The scalability improvements in the new cut include load balancing, failover and second-level caching. SiteMinder now supports most digital certificates, including VeriSign, GTE and Baltimore’s offerings and the directory technology is now more tightly integrated. It has been able to store users information in LDAP and SQL directories for some time, but SiteMinder can now store policy information as well. Netegrity VP of marketing Jim Rosen reckons that the company is on its own in this space as a distinct product, although he points out that Hewlett-Packard Co and IBM Corp do have similar offerings within their systems management software packages. Netegrity would be a cheap buy for any major software company – its market capitalization is only about $60m at the moment and its fourth-quarter revenues were $930,000. Netegrity recently raised $4.6m from a private placement and secured 14 new accounts within the fourth quarter of 1998. Rosen says the Netscape deal has already won it two new accounts in the first few weeks of the deal’s life. SiteMinder comprises a policy server and agents residing on the web server. Currently, agent support includes Microsoft and Netscape, but an Apache agent will be added in a future version. SiteMinder 3.5 is available today and costs $16,000 per 1000 users.
