Netcraft reeling in phishers

Netcraft Ltd has developed a service targeted at banks and other financial services organizations it claims can help clamp down on phishing.

By CBR Staff Writer

The service can identity sites presenting a fraudulent online presence through a fake front-end, which pretends to be the bank to steal customers’ identities a practice called phishing.

Netcraft, who compiles the massive Web Server Survey, said this survey provides the hostname and domain names for more than 46 million web sites and the front-page content for just under 20 million sites.

This means Netcraft can search each for occurrences of the bank’s domains, trademarks and commonly used phrases, the company said.
