NetChannel Inc the San Francisco, California-based company which provides Internet links through the television, has acquired ViewCall America Inc, the developer of a personalized internet listings service called ON-TV. The merged company will be called NetChannel and its plan will be to extend the television viewing experience with personally relevant information from the web, said NetChannel’s chief executive Philip Monego Sr. What this means for NetChannel’s viewers is the chance to get information from the web on the television shows and characters they like to watch. Monego (formerly of Yahoo! Inc) will remain in charge, with Viewcall’s Alan McKeon moving into an advisory role. The company has close ties with the US consumer electronics giant, Thomson Consumer Electronics SA and Oracle Corp’s Network Computer Inc.
