The Campaign for Unmetered Telecommunications, the UK organization behind this June’s ‘Net Strike’ in protest of pay-per-minute net access, has condemned one of its members who yesterday sent out ‘spam’ to 25,000 email addresses.
An email from David Hawker, who appeared to be a student from Warwick University’s Computer Science Department, boasted to CUT membership that he was to send a CUT press release, unsolicited, to every email address he had accumulated over three years. The organization responded angrily, saying it does not know how much damage the campaign could be caused as a result of Hawker’s unauthorized behavior. The culprit is likely to be banned from the organization.
