The devices are said to be easy to install as the USB token embeds the software that automatically sets up once the user connects the device to their PC. The token also features additional memory, which Nedbank clients can use to store personal data.

Nedbank is introducing the devices to increase its clients’ confidence in using e-banking applications. Commercial rollout of the devices has already started and deployment of all 80,000 tokens is expected to be completed during the first half of 2007.

Our primary goal was to provide our clients with convenient, world-class products to protect themselves from possible identity theft and fraud, said Adriaan du Plessis, divisional director of Nedbank transactional banking. The Gemalto solution enables us to eliminate the vulnerabilities of passwords and create a trusted online banking environment.
