NEC’S ACOS 3800 MONSTER TO RENT FOR $330,000

By CBR Staff Writer

NEC Corp says its new Acos 3800 monster (CI No 1,461), which addresses up to 128Tb of data, has a 100 MIPS uniprocessor and is implemented using circuits integrating 100,000 transistors with a switching speed of 70pS: the technology – clearly bipolar, was not identified but up to now NEC has been almost alone in using CML – Current Mode Logic – rather than ECL in all its fastest machines; the machines will rent for $330,000 to $1.9m a month.
