NEC Corp has won an outsourcing contract worth 15.5bn yen ($145m) from Ehime Bank, a medium-sized regional Japanese financial institution. Under the terms of the contract, NEC will build and operate an advanced computer system for the bank with the contract running for 10 years and starting next April.
It says that the system will be equipped with new accounting software that NEC has developed with three US firms and which is designed to meet diverse consumer needs, including debit card-based shopping and internet banking.
As part of the deal, NEC will lease a computer center in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, from the bank and staff if with 200 people, some from the bank and the rest provided by NEC. The center will not be exclusively for the Ehime contract, however, and NEC is aiming for it to receive 200bn yen ($1.9bn) in outsourcing orders from other financial institutions in western Japan over the next five years.
