NEC Corp believes it can have us all using liquid crystal displays rather than cathode ray tubes on our desks ere long, and has come out with its first two such offerings, the 12 MultiSync LCD200 and 13 MultiSync LCD300, priced a full 45% below similar products. The direct-view active matrix analogue monitors are claimed to work with virtually any video board that follows established VESA timings. Because the MultiSync panels use analogue signals, colour is displayed as a continuous spectrum, NEC says. The 12 model puts up 640 by 480, 800 by 600, 1,024 by 768 pixels and has an estimated street price of $4,000, the 13 one, putting up resolutions as high as 1,280 by 1,024, is likely to go for $6,000.
