NEC, a provider and integrator of communications, networking and IT offerings, has launched Univerge Sphericall for IBM Lotus Foundations, a unified communications offering that is fully integrated with IBM Lotus Foundations, an appliance that extends IBM Lotus Sametime unified communications and collaboration (UC2) tools with the ability to connect to telephony.

The Sphericall, designed for small and medium businesses, combines the basic communication needs with the new unified communications tools. It is integrated with the Lotus Foundations appliance and can also be installed and configured into the UC environment, the company said.

According to NEC, the software enables new options for businesses to enhance collaboration, including making mobile phones an integral part of the business phone system; setup work-at-home office extensions; utilising PC Video softphone and messaging; adding wireless (WiFi) telephones to office users; utilises video softphone technology, integrates video conferencing meeting room equipment.

In addition, the new software allows users to connect existing analog fax machines or conference phones; connects into existing telephone services, analog or digital; works with SIP trunking, combining internet and VoIP; and adding other Foundations Solutions such as multi-function IP printers.

Jay Krauser, general manager of sales support and engineering at NEC, said: “Now more than ever, SMBs want to take advantage of the benefits that unified communications can bring to their business, but they often do not have the resources and ability to customize and manage multiple applications.

“The integration of Sphericall into Foundations with Sametime software opens up opportunities for businesses to give everyone in their organisation access to enterprise-class communication features and functionality.”
