NEC TO START CHARGING FOR PC-VAN SERVICE

By CBR Staff Writer

From next month, NEC Corp will start charging for its personal computer communications service, PC-VAN, which was launched as a free, experimental service last April: since then it has picked up 30,000 subscribers, and NEC hopes that by the end of the year, it will have that number of paying subscribers; the electronic mail and information service will cost $20 to sign up and 13 cents per three minutes connect time to the host computer.
