NEC TO MAKE MIPS RISCS IN EUROPE AS WELL AS JAPAN

By CBR Staff Writer

MIPS Computer Systems Inc yesterday duly announced that Siemens AG and NEC Corp would fabricate its full line of current and future RISCs, with both due to start this year. NEC Corp will make R3000s in Europe as well as Japan, and as LSI Logic is making them in Japan as well as the US, it will have two sources in Europe and Japan, and three – Integrated Device Technology Inc and Performance Semiconductor Corp as well as LSI, in the US. NEC and Siemens will each take MIPS RISC architecture and semiconductor design, its compiler and operating system software and will sell development systems. MIPS now has all the partners it wants. Major customers DEC and Tandem Computers Inc each applauded the new agreements.
