NEC TEAMS WITH THREE TAIWANESE CHIP SET MANUFACTURERS

NEC Corp says that it has signed an agreement with three Taiwanese chip makers for them to manufacture chips sets compatible with NEC’s ‘virtual channel memory’ dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips. The three Taiwanese firms, Acer Laboratories Inc, Silicon Integrated Systems and VIA Technologies Inc, together control about 30% of the chipset market, shipping a total of 30 million a year. Intel currently controls over half the market.
