NEC Corp, which took a few DPS 6 minis for the Japanese market in a token offset deal for the DPS 90 mainframes it builds for Bull SA and Bull HN Information Systems Inc, is to take some of Bull’s new DPX/2 Unix machines in return for the DPS 9000 mainframes it ships to the firms in the US and Europe. NEC will team the machines, which include the top-end MIPS Computer Systems Inc R6000 ECL RISC-based DPX/2 510, as servers for its own MIPS RISC-based NEC 4800 workstations, with financial dealing room systems seen as the most promisin application for the kit.
