NEC SHYS AWAY FROM UNIX ON ITS 36-BIT MAINFRAMES

NEC Corp is reportedly shying away from Unix on its 36-bit mainframes, insisting that the operating system is better suited to workstations and supercomputers, with Hitachi Ltd, which has tried for some time but with little success to sell mainframe Unix, seconding its view – Hitachi however is still ploughing on with OSF/1 for its M-series.
