NEC OFFERS 16MHz V33 ENHANCED, EXTENDED “8086”

By CBR Staff Writer

As well as worrying about 16MHz and promised 20MHz 80286s from Advanced Micro Devices, Intel Corp has another NEC Corp chip to concern it. The new V33 is a superfast version of the 8086 compatible V30 with an extended address mode for up to 16Mb against 1Mb on the V30. The V33 is rated at around 2.8 MIPS, four times the V30, the higher performance being achieved by separating the address bus from the data bus and using hard-wired logic. The 1.2 micron CMOS part samples in May at $160 a shot for the 16MHz version, $120 for 12.5MHz version.
