Despite its role as a major player in the MIPS Technologies Inc R-series fabrication business, NEC Corp is still talking with the PowerPC people about manufacturing the IBM Corp-Motorola Inc RISC microprocessor for the Far East. Apple Computer Inc and Canon Inc, for two, would apparently be happier with a sub-licensing agreement as they are said to be worried that the chip is becoming too proprietary to IBM.
