NEC Corp has launched a range of even faster CD-ROM drives: the latest machines – the Multispin 3Xp and 4Xp – spin at four times normal speed, and have a data throughput of 600K-bytes per second; with an access time of 180mS, the models include a 256Kb buffer; the multisession units are compatible with the Kodak Photo CD standard, QuickTime, MPC level II and the rarely-used CD-ROM XA format; the drives, which start at UKP200 for an internal version, are offered ratail and include controls for audio operation.
