NEC Corp, which has just joined Hewlett-Packard Co’s Precision RISC Organisation supporters club as a sponsor member (CI No 2,723), is developing and manufacturing next-generation large-scale servers with Hewlett-Packard. It is bringing its mainframe technology to the party – and is taking 9000 servers running HP-UX OEM, primarily for its home market. The Hewlett-Packard organisation has also got itself a new chairman and president – James Bell is stepping down after three years in the job – in the shape of Jim McCabe, formerly manager of Hewlett-Packard’s strategic alliances group. The Precision Architecture fan club counts French company Allegro Consulting CS, Convex Systems Corp, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi Ltd, Information Builders Inc, Innovus, Interex, Kelly Computers, Mitsubishi, NEC, OKI Electric Industry Co Ltd, Oracle Corp, Rational Software Corp, Samsung Electronics Co, Stratus Computer Inc, Winbond Electronics Corp, Wind River Systems Ltd and Yokogawa Electric Co as members.
