NEC Corp has a new line of business computers, the 32-bit NEC System 3100 which uses the IDP-2 microprocessor which offers 2.4 times the power of its predecessor: the 3100 model 80 has supports communications at up to 384Kbytes per second over a maximum of 64 lines; all models of the PC9800 series of micros can be connected as workstations; the company also announced that the current Neac6500 line will now support NEC’s 12 3.6Gb optical disk drive; the 3100 line of six models ranges $23,000 for the Model 30 up to $160,000 for the top-of-the-line Model 80.
