NEC Corp has begun marketing an electronic office filing system based on its 80386-based N5300AD office workstation and a large write-once optical disk subsystem: the station comes with a 17 paper white screen putting up 1,728 by 2,368 pixels, and supports a 600Mb optical disk drive and a 400 dot-per-inch resolution printer, and runs a new search program called PTOS III AWS OEF2, which enables doucuments to be searched on keyword or by document number, date or title, and once you’ve found the one you’re looking for, you can enlarge it, reduce it or rotate it on the screen; up to four optical drives are supported, the thing goes for $53,300, ships start next month, and NEC looks to sell 1,500 of the things by the end of March 1989.
