As well as establishing a new low-end printer plant there, NEC Corp has established an NEC Technologies Hong Kong subsidiary in the Crown Colony to promote the sale of both its NEC 9801 series personal computers and its XT- and At-alikes: the latter, including peripherals such as hard disks and floppy disk units, will be designed in Hong Kong but manufacture will be contracted to companies in other South-East Asian countries, under the watchful quality-controlling eye of NEC managers; products will also be exported to the US, Europe and Japan, and turnover of some $180m are the company’s target by 1991.
