NEC Corp has introduced a local area network gateway that provides a connection to integrated services digital network lines and is aimed at companies whose data transmission volume does not warrant a leased line but that want to use Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp’s dial-up ISDN service: the MacBridge Remote Bridge I64 links NEC’s Ethernet 802.3-compliant C&C-Net Branch 4680II to ISDN; it pays to use ISDN services – still relatively highly-priced in Japan compared with analogue services – rather than leased lines when one’s traffic on a busy route such as Tokyo to Osaka, amounts to 4.5 hours or more a day.
