NEC Corp claims to have the world’s smallest digital camera with a 1.8 liquid crystal display for immediate recall of images. The Picona measures 4 by 3 and weighs only 6.5oz and can fit into a shirt pocket, NEC said. The camera is powered by two AA batteries and its pictures can be downloaded into a personal computer for viewing. The Picona will use CompactFlash cards from SanDisk Corp, Sunnyvale to store the images, and will come with a 2Mb card capable of storing 35 images. NEC will begin shipping the camera on March 14 and hopes to sell 120,000 in the first year. Price of the basic model will be about $560. It is destined for the international market but details are not yet set.
