NEC Corp claims that its new TE4E graphics accelerator is the world’s fastest 3D accelerator for NT systems. The Japanese company says that its new board offers two-and-a-half times better performance than current NT graphics subsystems.

The company is basing its claim on the TE4E’s score on the Viewperf ProCDRS-01(1) benchmark. The accelerator scored 30 points, beating every rival, NEC said. The TE4E is based on VLSI chips developed by NEC. The accelerator features a new geometry engine with 64Mb of local memory, and a new rendering engine with 64Mb of texture memory. However, the accelerator is only currently available in Japan, pre-installed on the Express5800 series of workstations.
