NEC ANNOUNCES NEW MODEL IN THE PC 9801 SERIES

By CBR Staff Writer

Restless NEC Corp has announced yet another new model in its PC 9801 series of personal computers: the model RA5 is functionally the same as the top-of-the-range 32-bit model currently being sold PC98LX Double, but some of the support for computer-aided design is eliminated to allow for a lower price tag, so that the RA5 with two floppy drives and a 40Mb Winchester can be sold for around $5,500; the machine includes an 80386 with 1.6Mb user memory and the NEC V30 8086 variant for compatibility with the 16-bit 9801s.
