NEC ANNOUNCES 16-BIT UPGRADES FOR USERS OF ITS PC8800

NEC Corp has announced 16-bit upgrades – based on its V30 8086 alike microprocessor -for users of its PC8800 series of 8-bit micros: the new 512Kb PC88VA2 and PC88VA3, with strong sound and graphics features, are priced respectively at $2,325 and $3,100, and are due to be in the shops in Japan in June; hobbyists have bought 840,000 of the original 8-bit models since they came out in 1981.
