NEC Corp and Daiwa Securities Co have agreed to jointly sell PCs that enable individual investors to trade securities over the internet. The two companies will offer a package of services to help customers sign up for internet access, set up PCs at their homes and instruct them in PC use.

Daiwa will market a selection of NEC desktop and notebook PCs at its branches and NEC Customer Service Co will set up the PCs and instruct customers in use of the internet and email. NEC’s Biglobe will be the internet access provider.

Daiwa handles more internet-based securities trading than any other Japanese brokerage and had 36,000 accounts as of the end of June. Brisk demand is expected for the PCs because about half the customers who open internet accounts buy computers at the same time.
