NEC Corp and its NEC Home Electronics unit have jointly announced additions to the PC-9800 series of top-selling Japanese-standard personal computers. The PC-9821Ne is a notebook with 9 thin-film transistor screen, a thumb ball replacing a mouse, and factory-installed Microsoft Corp Windows 3.1. With optional PCMCIA card slot, various modem and network cards can be installed. The PC-9801NX/C is an entry-level notebook designed for MS-DOS, while the PC-9821Af is a 60MHz Pentium-based desktop model with 7.5Mb memory standard, and factory-installed Windows 3.1 with 510Mb hard disk. The final new announcement is the PC-9801P, the first pen-based PC-9800. It has six hours maximum battery and weighs 3 lbs 12 oz; it runs Japanese PenDOS 2.0, Microsoft Windows for Pens 1.1 and Japanese PenPoint operating systems. Prices of the new models range from $4,055 to $11,110.
