NEC Corp has added a high-end laptop computer that includes both an 80386SX processor at up to 20MHz and a V30 processor to provide compatibility with NEC’s PC-9800 series computers: the PC-9801T is touted as being equivalent to a desktop computer in that it has two built-in expansion slots for accommodate communication adaptors for local area network, integrated services digital networks, or host computer links, and for the first time, NEC has made the keyboard of its laptop detachable; the screen is an eight-grayscale backlit liquid crystal display, but NEC plans a version with a colour display in the near future; the laptop runs Japanese MS-OS/2 1.1, Japanese MS-Windows/386, and PC-UX/V, and the W2 model at $4,000 has 640Kb memory and two 3.5 floppy drives; the Model W5 has 1.6Mb CPU expandable to 13.6Mb, and comes with 40Mb hard disk for $5,200; NEC is hoping to get 40,000 of the things away in the first year.
