NEC, a provider of IT and network technologies, has launched new ‘NEC Express5800/E120b-1’, featuring a 2-socket rack mounted server that saves more energy than existing models.

The new NEC Express5800/E120b-1 supports the EcoPower Gateway consolidated power supply unit (PSU), which distributes electricity between eight servers, suppresses electricity loss, and reduces electricity consumption when compared to existing servers that offer redundant PSU independently.

The EcoPower Gateway consolidated PSU features 4 power supply modules that provide electricity redundancy, and enables the NEC Express5800/E120b-1 to provide high availability since the rack system can continue to operate even if one power supply module fails.

The company said that the new NEC Express5800/E120b-1 features the Intel Xeon processor 5600 series with 6 cores, 64GB of memory, continued high speed processing and optimised operations within virtual environments.

In addition, NEC provides a fixed PSU model of the NEC Express5800/E120b-1, to which electricity is supplied individually.
