Thomson bought the technologies as part of its September 2002 deal to acquire Canal Plus Technologies for 191m euros ($185.8m). However in August this year it sold MediaGuard, the pay TV conditional access business of Canal Plus Technologies, to NDS rival Kudelski Group for 240m euros ($272m).

However NDS plans a close relationship with Thomson and the two companies

said that they had formed a strategic alliance to provide advanced middleware to digital TV operators.
