NCR Corp has lost CTO Dennis Roberson to Motorola Inc where he takes the VP and CTO chevrons. Rather confusingly Roberson reports to European boss Merle Gilmore rather than CEO Chris Galvin even though he’ll oversee the company’s corporate labs and coordinate technology development across the organization. The company didn’t return calls to clarify the matter. Roberson replaces William Braun who has retired. There was no word on a replacement for Roberson who came to NCR from DEC. After outsourcing its PC and entry-level server business and turning to Solaris for 64-bit Unix, NCR’s computer systems business is focused primarily on Intel servers and the Teradata data warehousing engine. Presumably Roberson wanted a new challenge.
