Nippon NCR’s exhibition attracted crowds with its WaveLAN wireless local network product, which supports wireless communications between workstations and personal computers at a maximum speed of 2.4GHz or 2Mbps over a maximum distance of 500 feet. It is designed mainly for use in office environments. NCR has applied to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications for approval in July, and received authorisation in October. Sales will start from March 1993. Currently the product can be used between two MS-DOS-based machines. NEC Corp’s PC-9800 series has not yet been tested but NCR plans do so in the near future.
