NCR Corp has turned to Network Computer and terminal specialist Boundless Technologies Inc for its own move into Network Computers. NCR will sell Boundless’ Viewpoint TC range of thin client systems. While final terms of the deal are currently being negotiated, Boundless says it will produce the boxes which will be badged under the NCR TC 2990 Series name. The agreement also covers the company’s Viewpoint Administrator system management software which will now be sold under the NCR Administrator name. Boundless says the newly rebadged boxes already form part of a major pilot deployment. Although it wasn’t releasing company names, the deliveries are described as being in the retail, communications and airline business segments. Boundless will also be doing some customization of the products for NCR including a remote boot version. Mike Stebel, vice president of global marketing at NCR said he envisaged the new deal would make up a significant part of the company’s business rather than a dominant portion. He cited the company’s production capacity as one of the major factors behind NCR’s choice, claiming that Boundless was the only manufacturer other than IBM currently capable of rolling out 1.5 million boxes a year. Boundless, of course, under its original name of SunRiver Data Systems Inc, acquired NCR Corp’s ADDS terminal business in 1994 (CI No 2,565).
