NCR Corp has an agreement in place with Sensar Inc, an iris recognition company from Moorestown, New Jersey, to develop, distribute and supply Sensar’s IrisIdent identity verification system for its personaS range of automated teller machines, so that consumers can set up an iris signature when they visit an ATM and throw away their personal identification number. IrisIdent uses standard video cameras and real-time image processing to identify and verify an individual iris at up to three feet away; NCR will be testing both bank and consumer reaction to IrisIdent at its London-based Knowledge Lab research and development facility, and expects a commercial product to be launched in the fourth quarter of the year. NCR has an option to acquire a minority stake in Sensar, which also has partnerships in place with Oki Electric Industry Co and Citicorp.
