NCR OFFERS VOLUNTARY TERMS IN EFFORT TO SHED 4,000

By CBR Staff Writer

Sending employees away with something to think about over Thanksgiving, AT&T Co’s NCR Corp yesterday announced a voluntary redundancy programme aimed at 25,000 of its 27,000 employees, and it hopes that between 3,250 and 4,050 to accept. The costs will be taken as a charge against first quarter 1994 figures. Eligible employees with at least one year of service as of February 11 next year will receive a package of enhanced benefits if they notify NCR between January 3 and 31 that they plan to leave on Febuary 11. Some 5,500 over the age of 50 with 10 years or more of service are also eligible for an early retirement programme. The company’s latest reorganisation calls for fewer layers of management between NCR and its customers. A typical employee would receive roughly one week of redundancy pay per year of service.
