NCR Corp has been telling Wall Street that it is looking to acquire new analytic and vertical industry applications for datawarehousing. Merrill Lynch & Co says that despite NCR’s success in warehousing – it claims four of the top five US retailers as warehouse customers – NCR still has poor mindshare in datawarehousing, especially in low-end and mid-range markets.

The brokerage figures NCR needs to hire direct sales people and boost advertising spending to smaller companies. It says that NCR is leaving money on the table if it doesn’t maximize its Teradata advantage. There is also a new ad campaign targeted at customers looking to spend over $500m on warehousing systems. A renewed TNT (Teradata on NT) partner initiative is due at the end of the year.
