NCR DENMARK DEVELOPS LU6.2, DISOSS FOR UNIX

By CBR Staff Writer

NCR Denmark has announced IBM Systems Network Architecture Logical Unit 6.2 and DisOSS Distributed Office Support System extensions for the Unix System V implementation on the NCR Tower series of supermicros and the UK arm says that it plans to make the interfaces available in the near future. The interfaces were developed at the company’s lab in Denmark, and were particularly wanted for use with NCR’s retail systems. Siemens, another strong retail systems vendor, has, had similar software for around a year, developed by Rabbit Software Corp of Malvern, Pennsylvania. Separately NCR Corp in Cambridge, Ohio – where the Towers are manufactured – is doing a real-time implementation of Unix for delivery in 1988. When available, the prodicts will combine to give NCR a strong Unix-based retail system and the ability to sell Unix into large corporations.
