NCR Comten, St Paul, Minnesota manufacturer of IBM 37XX-compatible communications processors, has added SNA-NetView network management to its multi-vendor support package, and support for distributed peer-to-peer networking in its SNA product line. Comten Support is a host-resident package that reports network control and management information into IBM’s NetView network management program, as well as enabling remote management of Comten networks from the company’s system console. The $400 a month package links the Comten operating system to Multi Vendor Networking Facility, X25 and the firm’s Communications Networking System. The new release of SNA Communications Functions enables Physical Unit 2.1 devices to use the Logical Unit 6.2 protocol to conduct peer-to-peer sessions over SNA networks. The facilities are in the new Version 5 of the operating software for Comten’s 5620 and 56X5 communications processor lines.
