Privately held IDVelocity, based in Greensboro, North Carolina, makes software that collects, moves and uses data from RFID and other auto-ID transactions from fixed and mobile systems.
For Dayton, Ohio-based NCR, the acquisition will round out its RFID line.
Many believed the price of tags would be the greatest inhibitor to RFID adoption, said NCR senior VP Lee Schram, in a statement. But, in fact, transforming RFID data to eliminate the need for human intervention has been the true inhibiting factor and the most difficult to overcome.
