Network Computing Devices Inc has developed mirroring technology that gives IT managers dual control on a user’s PC, and intends to market it as a PC management system for fixing Y2K faults.

ThinPath Mirroring uses code installed in the memory via CD-ROM which sends all information on the PC display to the management console. When users call up the IT manager with a problem, the administrator can fix it remotely. NCD claims that although there is similar software on the market, its 500KB takes up a smaller memory than Symantec’s 60 MB PCAnywhere and at $80 per seat, costs far less than Citrix’s $250 per license MetaFrame.

NCD already has 100 ThinPath Mirroring customers but expects demand for PC management systems to reach hundreds of thousands of seats. Mountain View, California-based NCD intends to distribute its ThinPath Mirroring software via application service providers as well as through its traditional indirect sales.
