Navio Communications Inc, the company that developed as a slimmed-down version of Netscape Communications Corp while it was part of that company and has since been sold to Oracle Corp, has completed a trial in Japan of the television version of its browser, called TV Navigator. The Sunnyvale, California company teamed with Interactive Cable Communications Inc to deploy the browser within ICC’s cable network in Yokohama City. The test proved that ICC would not need to alter its network in order to use Navio’s technology, the company said. The service will be rolled out next month to around 100,000 homes in Yokohama, and ICC has around 30 more cable stations in other cities that are likely to receive the service in time. Meanwhile, Navio was as tight-lipped as it has always been about other version of its software. It is supposed to be readying a version of Navigator for network computers, called NC Navigator, and will feature as part of Oracle’s Network Computer Inc (NCI). It is also due to have a registration server for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and a software developer’s kit (SDK) to customize its interface for consumer devices. But Navio won’t talk about that or anything else just yet. It hasn’t even updated its web site since the Oracle deal back in May.
